Interesting fact about Latvia.. 5-10 years ago for every 3 single men, there were 5 single women. Since then with many men leaving LV, seeking their fortunes abroad, there is an even bigger shortage of single men..

Those LV men that remain have a potentially easier dating life..so I guess the normal attentiveness of a "foreigner towards a lady would be appealing..

To Svetlana - be even more careful with similar guys in Ireland. There you're stuck with him for much longer (because divorce is nearly impossible to obtain). But in any case you can contact http://www.patverums-dm.lv/ about such cases of fictious marriages, though it is more about those cases where they send out requests about a possibility of fictious marriage and earning "a lot of" money for agreeing to that.

Latvian girls (or any EU country passport holders) do not need a visa to visit, live or work in the UK. They are fully entitled to do all..

I think Roosevelt is thinking of Russian passport holders where even a UK "visitor" visa for single women is difficult to obtain..

There is a big scandal in the UK with Asian guys in this context but not just students. Middlemen were putting Asian immigrants together with Romanian women who charged £10,000+ for marriage and subsequent RO passport etc

The other point you need to realise is that the UK is NOT a "Shengen" country and a visa for LV and most EU countries is NOT valid for the UK.

Even is a LV citizen marries an Asian man, the man with an Asian passport does NOT automatically become entitled to a UK visa to visit and certainly not for residence... although marriage will help..

However, if the marriage is later separated or divorced, the mans UK visa is effectively void and a 5 minute call to UK immigration will have him contacted and deported..

If however, through the marriage you arrange for him to get a LV passport, he can then travel/reside as any other LV citizen..
